4th November 2018

Last week, we had our ‘Remembering with Thanksgiving’ Service. We had a few families who attended for the service. Thank you to those who came, provided cake & supporting our visiting families. This is an important part of our pastoral care, not just to the church community but to the wider parish and associated families too.

It has been another week of meetings, including the PCC & Hall committee. I want to thank the committee members for their time & commitment for their work towards the vision of the church & upkeep of the hall respectively.

The meeting I attended yesterday morning was Diocesan Synod. We are at the beginning of a new 3 year term, so part of the meeting was about elections – it was my first experience of elections in each of the houses: clergy, laity & the Bishops. There was a lot of discussion over the parish share, & more information will be coming to Deanery Synod for feedback at the start of next year; we also heard about some exciting plans for the future of the diocese that depend on a bid being made to the national church. There was an update on the movement towards relating to Modern Slavery. The Clewer Initiative is a C of E initiative enabling the dioceses and wider church networks to develop strategies for detecting modern slavery in their communities with an aim to help provide victim support & care. The meeting also included a presentation on safeguarding that recognised the good work that is going on in parishes – a message of thanks was asked to be circulated to parish safeguarding officers and teams for the work done so far. The presentation also explained the vision & plan for safeguarding training across the diocese.

I want to finish with some good news, & not so good news. Sadly Wednesday Eucharist services will be suspended until 2019 due to illness of church members. The good news relates to West End Lights. Lincolnshire Fire & Rescue Concert band is linked to a German band, Musikverein Diedersfeld who are coming to the Christmas Market & will be joining the band to play at St Faith’s for West End lights.

Have a good week, God bless, Rev’d Julie
